As a freelancer, it can be tough to stand out in the sea of other freelancers. It’s time to impress your current and potential clients, turning inquiries into clients and leaving them happy and encouraged to refer you!
Consider these four simple tips to impress your clients:
1. Do your research
Before you hop on a consultation call with a new client, do research about the company, the person you’ll be speaking to, and the industry the company is in. It’ll impress the client if you already have knowledge about the company and industry.
2. Be Personable
Get to know your client and treat them like a friend while still being professional. Begin your consultation call with small talk to get to know the person. Ask them a few questions about themselves. During the call, show that you genuinely care about their goals and that you want to help.
A lot of times freelancers try to be overly professional, which often times further separates you from the client. Throughout your relationship with the client, talk to them like a normal person and use language that’s easy for them to understand.
3. Be organized
Nothing impresses clients more than being organized. A great way to show that you're organized is sending new clients a professional welcome packet. A welcome packet could be as simple as a 3 page PDF and should clearly lay out the scope of work. It could also include the invoice and signed contract.
4. Send a thank you card
Once your work is done for a client, send them a hand written thank you card. This nice gesture will leave you looking professional and make the client more likely to refer your services to a friend.
